Facilities and Infrastructure Strategy

It should be well known and understood that Kirklees Council have experienced significant budget cuts over the past few years. The role of voluntary organisations such as FoBP will play an increasing part in maintaining the green spaces around Kirklees. We are very lucky to have the services of John Mason, the gardener in the Park and we will work closely with the council officers and John to improve the infrastructure and the facilities within the park. However, all of this depends on finance and volunteer resource. We have to be very careful to work within the council management plans and our own financial and volunteer resource capabilities.

As such there are a host of projects that we wish to undertake, some already part funded and some with huge cost and resource implications. We are therefore prioritising these projects and this page will identify what we are currently tackling, what we hope to achieve in a five or six year timescale and also celebrate what we have done.

To work to develop modern facilities in sympathy with the historical setting for the benefit of the local community.

The solution to a lot of the issues the local community and park users have expressed to us over the past months requires a significant amount of resource and funding to provide a new Visitor Centre with all the facilities needed. This will include toilets at the south end of the park near the play area. To obtain all the permissions and funding will take several years but the work will commence immediately, so our first project on the list is entitled simply -

- Build a New Visitor Centre

However, this does not stop us progressing with interim solutions and improving other aspects of the Park facilities. The following is the list that we will commence working with Kirklees to achieve in parallel with the new visitor centre project and in no order of priority

- Develop a three year programme to resurface priority paths in the park

- Install a Drinking Fountain

- Repair the Cascade

- Provide Lighting to certain areas of the park

- To provide more easily serviced refreshments and toilet facilities at Bandstand Events

What we have achieved so far

We will include in this area what we have achieved since 1st October 2016, in meeting the facilities element of our strategic aims. - We have already started and for visitors to any event at the Bandstand from this weekend onwards (11th September), a disabled toilet facility will be provided below the steps to the east of the Bandstand.
