2009 FRIENDS OF BEAUMONT PARK ACTIVITIES

5 September - MEMORY WALK IN BEAUMONT PARK - organised by Kirklees Branch of the Alzheimer's Society which provides ongoing information and support for people with dementia and their families. For further details contact the branch on 01484 429865 www.alzheimers.org.uk. The visitor centre was open for refreshments.

25 August - Mark Dicks of Work Link brought his pupils to the park for a walk and quiz followed by refreshments in the visitor centre.  One pupil does voluntary work with the FoBP ' Monday Gardening Club'. 

17 August - Soroptimists International of Huddersfield - evening walk and talk by Karen and Tony Moyle (FoBP committee members) to members of the Soroptimists.

MONDAY

MONDAY MORNING 'GARDENING CLUB' - 10am to 12noon Meet at the Depot, bring your own gardening gloves, trowel, etc for a bit of weeding, leaf clearing, planting and tidying.  A good way to start the week with a group of friendly volunteers.

BUGGYFIT - Meet 1.30pm on Monday & Wednesday by the main gate .  BUGGYFIT is a fitness class for new mums wanting to get back into shape after the birth of their baby. It is a power walking class combined with strengthening and toning exercises and can help in losing post natal weight and gaining a toned body.  Local Buggyfit instructor Liz Royston-Bishop is currently running Buggyfit session in the park at 1.30pm on Monday & Wednesday afternoons .  The sessions last for approximately 1 hour. You and your baby will enjoy the fresh air and the chance to meet other mums and their babies.  Contact Liz on 07946 637855 or by email real.fitness@hotmail.co.uk or just turn up on the day.

TUESDAY

BEAUMONT PARK SOCIAL HISTORY GROUP -  Meet in the visitor centre on the first Tuesday of each month at 10.30am between September and April.    New members are welcome but please telephone Ken (01484 663625) as we are limited for space in the visitor centre.  

WEDNESDAY

WEDNESDAY WALKERS - New Activity commencing January 2010 meet at 10.30am by the depot.  Maximum 5 mile walk from the park returning to the visitor centre where soup and sandwiches will be on sale.

PARENT/GRANDPARENT & TODDLER GROUP - Meet on Thursdays 9.30am to 12 NOON in the visitor centre.  Just turn up and meet new friends.

VISITOR CENTRE OPEN - 1.30pm to 3.30pm for refreshments.

NORDIC WALKING - A Kirklees Event.  Diane Clifford (Park Warden) and Julian Brown (Ranger) give free tuition.  Poles provided but walking boots recommended.  See calendar for dates.

FRIDAY

BEAUMONT PARK HEALTH WALKERS - Meet in the visitor centre Fridays 2.00pm for a short walk around the area and refreshments afterwards.  A relaxing way to meet new friends and get a little exercise.  Everyone welcome.
