BANDSTAND MARATHON A GREAT SUCCESS

Cool weather did not deter supporters of the Youth Bands playing in the bandstand marathon.
2pm to 2.40pm Slaithwaite Junior Band
3pm to 3.40pm Scissett Youth Band
4pm to 4.40pm Sellers International Youth Band
Organised by Kirklees Council.
Just so you know a little about the Bandstand Marathon – it is a national initiative to encourage the use of bandstands (many of which are no longer used for their original purpose if at all). The Bandstand Marathon is supported by the Cultural Olympiad, with the participation of amateur band members reflecting the amateur athletes taking part in the 2012 Olympics.
Roz Garthwaite, Support Officer, Arts & Creative Economy Development Team at Kirklees Council said "I wanted to encourage and support some of our local youth bands and I felt that this was a perfect opportunity for young players showcase their talents!... and maybe encourage others watching to take up an instrument".
