The Friends are pleased to announce that English Heritage and Kirklees Metropolitan Council have confirmed that the historic gothic style gates at the bottom of the park are to be repaired. Once the main entrance to Beaumont Park from the Meltham branch railway line, these impressive gates have fallen into disrepair after decades of neglect.

The castllated entrance was designed to be complementary to the 'castle' which was the refreshments pavilion located in the centre of the park. This impressive three-storey building was demolished in the 1960s yet still features strongly in the memories of many residents and park users. As such, its characteristic design plays a major role in re-enforcing the park's Victoria character and former grandeur.

This exciting project is due to be completed over the coming months, and all parties are hopeful that the restoration work will be completed in Spring 2008. The official opening will be on Sunday 27 April 2008.
